Flipgrid is a website and app that allows teachers to create discussion themes and students can respond through video chat/feedback.
Teachers can create these themes through organised topics and then invite students to contribute creating a grid view front face showing all the contributions. External guests can also be invited through the sharing of a link.
Teachers can set time limits to the videos from 15 seconds to 10 minutes, they also have the ability to customise the security settings to protect student privacy.
Users can participate on Flipgrid via the app or the website with any camera-enabled device or by uploading a previously recorded video. Teachers can also allow students to record replies to classmates' responses. To help manage this there are moderator features that allow teachers to to control content. What is really good about this is that it has lots of fun features and effects for the students to be creative if they wish. This helps for students who perhaps do not want to be seen on video, they can for example cover their faces with a smiley Emoji. All of these features are very easy to use even for first time users. The students do not need to worry about having a Flipgrid account either, it can all run from a teacher account.
Teachers have access to a help center and two active teacher communities: Discovery Library for sharing topic templates, and GridPals for connecting with educators and classrooms around the world. Do note that some users report difficulty in uploading videos via the Android app.
